Lin Biao has provided the most comprehensive most correct most scientific and most lofty analysis of our most most beloved leader Chairman Mao Second edition first printing of this uncommon pseudo-"Little Red Book" which was not commercially distributed. Compiled in one of the hotspots of the Cultural Revolution it was designed to establish Lin as China's foremost leader apart from the Chairman himself. Lin's growing power and cult of personality made him a force that Mao would eventually have to reckon with. The first edition of Quotations from Comrade Lin Biao was published in Wuhan in December 1967 only a few months after armed conflict among different Cultural Revolution organisations in the city had come close to descending into a state of civil war. For the organisations involved in the compilation of this work it demonstrated their loyalty to the leadership in Beijing and courted the support of Lin and the People's Liberation Army. Shortly before the first edition went to press a high-level document outlining preparations for the Ninth Congress of the Party stressed the need to increase Lin's prestige as Mao's heir-apparent and most ardent follower. This second edition quickly followed a few weeks later to answer this call and included an additional preface heralding the widespread enthusiasm for the first edition. The present work states that "Comrade Lin Biao has provided the most comprehensive most correct most scientific and most lofty analysis of our most most beloved leader Chairman Mao and the ever-victorious Mao Zedong Thought. Comrade Lin Biao was personally cultivated by Chairman Mao. In the long experience of our Party he is the most outstanding politician thinker military leader and theoretician. He is the closest comrade-in-arms of Chairman Mao" pp. i-iii. It is noteworthy to say here that in September 1971 after LIN was labeled a traitor Mao's official orders were to expunge everything LIN Biao from the public including posters monuments books and to expunge everything Lin from the historic record. It was commonplace after September 1971 for Red Guards & others to either pull out and discard anything LIN slogans writings photos & what not to deface his name or otherwise deface & remove him from books magazines and documents. . To that end this RARE example still contains all of the LIN essays and slogans intact. A RARITY now. . FORMAT: This book has three separate title pages each on stiff stock red ink titles with a green rule box outline. . ABOUT LIN BIAO: After LIN's death in 1971 by official order his name was officially ordered expunged from all books and public places. Most of these frontispieces and LIN's essays were pulled from books of this period since LIN and his family were labeled as traitors & "counter-revolutionary forces" by the Communist Party receiving official blame from the Chinese government. . LACK OF COLOPHONS IN EARLY CULTURAL REVOLUTION PERIOD BOOKS: . It was commonplace for books of the early part of the WENHUA DA GEMING CULTURAL REVOLUTION ca. 1966 not to have proper or traditional colophons printed on the last page. In some cases like this example a 'postscript' was provided in place it was often called "Bian hou fu ji" "postscript" see below: . BIAN HOU FU JI: POSTSCRIPT: . We translate the postscript into English: "This "Long live the great Mao Zedong Thought" is an addendum to "Long live the great Mao Zedong Thought" Beijing edition for internal study only. RARITY: This example complete with the RARE LIN Biao essays slogans and writings is seldom found intact. The slogan had a white paper covering pasted to cover it up. This was gently removed with a very minor bit of loss to the vivid red color else a truly excellent example. . RARE FIRST EDITION: This the RARE June 1969 Nanjing edition. . CONDITION: The book is bound in the original publisher's red vinyl covers with gold stamped titles on the front & spine A very clean and solid example with a minimal bit of usual signs of minor wear. The book is solidly bound and firm. . There is typical and often usual minor dampness to first & last end paper & fly leaves frontispiece & title pages with a very tiny nibble to the fist 19 pages on the leading margin edge text unaffected. Otherwise text is very clean. There is a lightly penned previous owner's name inside the first fly leaf along with his penned date on the lower edge: "70.4.5" April 5 1970. . By and large a very much better than average item complete as issued. Most copies lack all references to LIN Biao. Seldom found complete intact with all LIN related items. .
