Original chromolithographic poster printed on waxed paper, overall size 47x33 cm., folded. Unobtrusive contemporary signature at top right corner, else in fine condition. ~ Very rare original poster of unidentified origin and provenance. It is beautifully printed in chromolithography and depicts in total 11 uniformed figures of the French army. These include Infantry man, Hunter, Hussar, Dragoon, Cuirassier, Artillerist, Combat Engineer, etc. Furthermore, the poster shows 8 images of cuff insignia and 10 images of command flags. Each of the 29 images is captioned on the stone in Dutch.
Quarto (31x25 cm). Unpaginated. Pp. (4), (1) verso blank, (1) verso blank. Plus 5 lithographic plates with several images to each. Half-title present. Original printed wrappers with large armorial emblem, margin of cover and first leaf soiled, thread stiching defective. In good condition. ~ Braunschweig, am 25sten April 1834. Published 1893.

The beautifull cards were printed in chromolithography, a process which yielded a much more delicate result than later, mechanical processes. Complete series of this work, comprising of unused, unglued cards which are preserved entirely in the original state, are very scarce.
