The Library label and the original dealer label are still intact. In the back is the original library label. 8vo. 232 pp. <br /> <br /> The book is inscribed by Violet Trefusis to the fashion icon Elsa Schiaparelli who was an Italian fashion designer renowned for her innovative and surrealist designs that revolutionized the fashion industry in the early 20th century by creating the house of Schiaparelli in Paris in 1927. Schiaparelli was often seen as a rival to Coco Chanel. While Chanel focused on timeless elegance and simplicity Schiaparelli embraced bold avant-garde designs such as the infamous Lobster Gown she collaborated on with Dali.<br /> <br /> "For Elsa<br /> these bourgeois Borgias<br /> Violet tr te<br /> 20"Juin 1952"<br /> <br /> Elsa Schiaparelli was a friend of Violet and was a frequent visitor at the Mediaeval tower in Saint Loup de Naud a village at eighty kilometres from Paris owned by Trefusis. Violet Trefusis was the daughter of Alice Frederica Keppel who was a prominent mistress of King Edward VII. Additionally Violet Trefusis's lineage connects her to British royalty through her great-granddaughter Queen Camilla. <br /> <br /> An interesting well-read edition for any library collection. pp. 14, 16, 14, cb, 12, 20, 1 tav. In these five “note”, Schiaparelli reports his discoveries about the slow rotation of Venus, and for the first time makes the hypotesis on the blanket of clouds surrounding the planet, that is considered his discovery. The serie is materially taken from the volumes of the “Rendiconti del Reale istituto lombardo di scienze e lettere”, including the plate.

1954012152NY: E. P. Dutton 1954. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Memoir of the Italian-born priestess of fashion Else Schiaperelli 1890- 1973 known chicly as "Schiap". All the swells entered her orbit - Lady Mendle Garbo Gloria Swanson Picasso Dali et al. Schiap's inscription - in her broad flowing almost indecipherable script in brown ink on the free front endpaper - indeed harkens back to a swell time: "To Kay Lawrence for a delightful hour at 21 N.Y. Elsa Schiaperlli" referring presumably to cocktails at 21 Club on 52nd Street in Manhattan which fell victim to the Covid economy in mid December 2020. Kay Lawrence was a Manhattan-based journalist perhaps on assignment for the publication of Schiap's book. She served as President of the Newswomen's Club of New York from 1960-61. Black cloth covers have a moderately worn lower right corner otherwise unblemished with shocking pink stamped titles front and spine. In unclipped dustjacket with light wear spine tips and edges here and there. Book shows little if any signs of having been read. Illustrated with b&w photographs. THE collectible copy. E. P.
