Steub schilderte jedoch neben dem Land auch die Sitten und Gebräuche seiner Einwohner: "...ein in seiner Art unübertroffenes Werk, reich an Witz und Humor, voll Farbenpracht und Waldesduft. Book appears to be in mint unread condition. 104pp. The story of the rediscovery of a Saxon stronghold near Bakewell in Derbyshire and the farming which supported it. It was constructed under King Edward the Elder in AD 920 in order to secure the cooperation of the Vikings in a united England. Extremely scarce.

Steinmetz is particularly indebted to 'honest old Kaempfer' and Charles MacFarlane's report on Japan which was published in 1852 and was illustrations by Arthur Allom whose lovely woodcuts are also used here. ~ Provenance: From the private collection of Ing.
