With personal armorial bookplate (defaced) on front paste-down. Collects (i) An Account of His Majesty's Escape…dictated to Mr. Pepys [BM Add MS. 31955]; (ii) Boscobel Parts I and II by Blount; (iii) Claustrum Regale Reseratum by Wyndham (1667); (iv) MS account by Whitgreave, Charles's host at Moseley Hall; (v) Captain Ellesdon's Memoir; (vi) Letter from a Prisoner at Chester. A later, inferior, edition appeared in 1857. The lithograph shows the sovereign making his escape attended by the five 'Pendrels' [sic] and Yates. Drawn 'on stone' by Giles, it is printed by Hullmandel who had started to popularise the art in England around 1818. It is thus a relatively early example of this form of illustration. SCARCE.
