In-4 ; plein maroquin brun, dos à 4 nerfs sertis de filets à froid se prolongeant sur les plats, titre doré, plat supérieur orné d'une grande plaque de cuir repoussé signée Charles Meunier et datée 1922, figurant Jésus debout devant une croix, contreplats bordés de même maroquin ornés d'un encadrement de 4 filets dorés et 1 à froid, fleurons dorés aux angles (croix), contreplats en reps moiré violet, double garde en reps moiré violet et en papier marbré, tranches dorées sur témoins, couv. et dos conservés, chemise en demi-maroquin de même à rabats doublée, étui bordé de même et gainé (reliure de Charles Meunier). 29 bois en bichromie (noir et sanguine, sauf 2 en noir et bleu) ; vignette de couv., de titre, 4 évangélistes, 19 hors-texte, 3 véritables triptyques et vignette de l'éditeur. Texte serti de filets jaune moutarde, texte en grec en noir et texte en français en rouge sur pages paires, les pages impaires étant réservées aux illustrations. TIRAGE A 165 EXEMPLAIRES, DONT 150 réservés aux membres de la Société du Livre Moderne. EXEMPLAIRE UNIQUE ET PERSONNEL DE CHARLES MEUNIER (n° 1), sur JAPON teinté accompagné de tous les dessins originaux, sauf les vignettes de couverture et titre, tous les états des gravures sur bois en épreuves d'artiste, une suite en bichromie, sur chine avec monogramme rouge de l'artiste, une suite en bichromie sur papier pelure, une suite en noir sur papier pelure, une suite en noir sur chine, une suite des bois du tirage en sanguine sur chine, une suite en bichromie sur chine, plusieurs essais de bois en tirage noir avec rehauts à l'aquarelle sanguine. (La bichromie est une technique par laquelle on reproduit par l'impression une image à l'aide de deux couleurs tramées). Il est enrichi de deux longues notices autographes de Kharis, l'une à contenu philosophico-religieux, mettant en perspective le mysticisme oriental et l'influence qu'il eut sur les premiers chrétiens, l'autre à propos de son idée de l'art et de son illustration pour " L'Evangile", Paris 19/12/1917 ; 3 lettres autographes signées de Léon Mésonier (réviseur du texte grec ?) et deux l.a.s de Kharis (Päl Burger Diether) à propos de la réalisation de cet ouvrage ; UN DESSIN ORIGINAL au trait et au lavis d'encre de Chine sur papier vélin fort ; UNE AQUARELLE ORIGINALE SIGNEE, sur papier d'aquarelle titrée " Marie visite Elisabeth " ; UN BOIS ORIGINAL NON RETENU, sur Japon pelure, dédicacé à Charles Meunier et signé par PÄL BURGER DIETHER.
