From Introduction: The accurate identification of seeds has always been problematical and difficult but not entirely impossible. Seeds should not be considered entirely featureless for there are often many reliable differences in their morphology and anatomy. Furthermore seed characters are highly stable and conservative and therefore have considerable diagnostic value. Many seeds have easily recognizable familiar characteristics. The problem of positive identification becomes more acute however at generic and species levels. The need for accurate seed identification is aposite to many branches and fields of the biological sciences e.g. agriculture agronomy biochemistry forestry genetics pharmacognosy plant systematics seed analysis wildlife biology and others.
