Each of the three volumes is inscribed and dated by Henry Miller on the front flyleaf: "a great pleasure to meet a charming woman of France with whom I do no always see eye to eye but better heart to heart." A fictionalized account of Henry Miller's life in Brooklyn as he falls for his second wife June and struggles to become a writer leading up to his departure for Paris in 1928. The title comes from a sentence near the end of Miller's Tropic of Capricorn 1934: "All my Calvaries were rosy crucifixions pseudo-tragedies to keep the fires of hell burning brightly for the real sinners who are in danger of being forgotten." Octavo three volumes. Original light brown paper-covered boards with a red stamping. The dust jackets are a bit toned along the spine and folds with a half-inch chip to the spine head of Plexus an unobtrusive label shadow to each front panel and some minor shelfwear; otherwise a very good set. Cover has wear. edge tear and soiling. A scarce reference work. Ms. Miller may be the Editor rather than Author--role is unclear. This work was dedicated to Brigadier General Ivan L. Framan USAF Ret who was one of military aviation's pioneers and an early proponent of airborne communications. He was known as the "Father of Airways Communications." Included in this work is the lineage of the headquarters its active divisions and the divisions' subordinate organizations. The only inactivations included are those of the headquarters and the 1990 inactivations of the subordinate units. Also included are photos of available emlems with a significant statement or a description of the emblem. The purpose of this work was not only to recognize the lineage of Air Force Communications Command and its subordinate divisions and units but to acknowledge the men and women of the AACS/AFSC/AFCC for their half century of exemplary leadership. The Air Force Network Integration Center AFNIC located at Scott Air Force Base Illinois is the United States Air Force's only organization for Air Force Network integration cyber simulation and network standards architecture and engineering services. The AFNIC now serves as the sixth generation AF central communications and information organization. AFNIC traces its history back to the Army Airways Communications System which was organized on 15 November 1938 in the Directorate of Communications of the U.S. Army Air Corps. The official lineage of the AACS as a separate unit began on 13 April 1943 with the constitution of the AACS Wing. On 13 March 1946 AACS was redesignated Air Communications Service ACS. The ACS was then redesignated the Airways and Air Communications Service AACS on 11 September 1946 and subsequently reassigned to the Military Air Transport Service on 1 June 1948. Airways and Air Communications Service became an Air Force major command again on 1 July 1961 and was simultaneously redesignated Air Force Communications Service AFCS.
