19322801591932. unbound. very good. These historically-important contracts were issued in 1932 by Mascot films at the height of their success releasing cliff-hanger shorts to the movie industry. The signatures include Monte Montague 1889 - 1959 a seasoned Western actor who appeared in more than 100 films signing a contract agreeing to appear in the film "The Shadow Of The Eagle" January 26 1932 to play the part of Calhoun at the rate of $75.00 per week. Also included is John Trent 1906 - 1966 a commercial pilot turned actor. He really flew planes in the pictures he was in but was never comfortable acting. This contract arranges for Trent to appear in the film "The Whispering Shadow" December 4 1932 at the rate of $75.00 per week. Mascot finally figured out he couldn't act so they cancelled the film! Both items are in very good condition.<br/><br/> American film company of the 1920s and 1930s best remembered for producing and distributing film serials with "cliff hangers" and B-westerns. They bought out Sennett Studios when Mack Sennett went bankrupt during the great depression and later were absorbed into Republic Pictures in time to reap the rewards of television syndication.<br/><br/> unknown books

Fourteen 8 x 10 inch approximate photographs plus "title page" photograph. Boards. A loose leaf binder with photographs depicting testing of crates and the attendant necessary equipment. Photos show a "large revolving drum" construction shop a compression machine what looks like a drop test chassis with crate affixed two photos of several men in a laboratory using a microscope and several other instruments a blueprint in progress two closeup images of instruments including a mullen tester a very large press used to compress pieces of plywood together testing in action and several other images. No doubt used as a sales tool demonstrating how thoroughly the company could build and test crates for reliable performance.<br/><br/>The tenth edition of Industrial Research Laboratories of the United States 1956 locates the Atlas Plywood Corporation's Department of Research and Design at 431 Market Street Lawrence Mass. the same address as on the card cover of this folder hence our approximate dating. On the large map of Midtown streets are clearly labeled as well as important buildings and institutions such as the Empire State Building the UN Port Authority and Central Park. There is an index listing countless buildings as well: museums hotels parks theatres skyscrapers sightseeing and many more. Subway lines are noted in red. While the book does not contain pictures each piece and artist is described to detail along with the identity of the donor. With complete index.<br/><br/>Bookplate reveals that this book is from the collection of Dennis Wheatley 1897-1977 a best-selling English author of thrillers many with an occult or "black magic" theme e.g. The Devil Rides Out 1934. He was also a noted collector of antique books and nowadays there is a great deal of artistic appreciation directed towards his personal bookplate. It was illustrated by F.C. Papé as a tribute to Wheatley's mentor Gordon Eric Gordon-Tombe; in his design Gordon Eric is depicted as a satyr seated on a stump beside a bottle of champagne and a saxophone as he delivers some words of wisdom to a young man based on Wheatley himself. Printed on both sides one side depicts the fairgrounds the Flushing Meadows Corona Park and labels all important buildings walks avenues pavilions exhibits and concessions. Transportation lines are also noted throughout. Color coding marks the areas for exhibits of 'Federal and States' 'Industrial' 'International' 'Lake' and 'Transportation'. The New York World's Fair was the third largest world's fair held in New York with over 51 million visitors and is best remembered for its showcase of mid-20th century American culture and technology. The New York Pavilion featured a 166 foot wide terrazzo tile road map that visitors could walk on. The map is in good condition and nicely preserved.<br/><br/> C.S. Hammond & Co unknown books
