Pages 25 and 26 are in there twice as Change 1 and Change 3. Change 3 deleted figure 3-22 which is present on the earlier version. Also included are pages 28A and 28B 38A 38B 38C38D 38E and 38F which is a page intentionally left blank. Also includes are pages 58A and 58B. Pages 73 and 74 appear twice marked Change 2 and Change 5. Many pages have their change number printed at the bottom. Those without are presumed to be from the original 1962 issuance. Covers worn and soiled. Fastener does not always hold cover pages. Five-hole punched with two metal fasteners. Minor writing on front cover. The Change Notice states: Latest revised pages supersede the same pages previously issued. Insert revised pages into present publication. The Basic issue of this publication dated 20 August 1962 superseded TO 40-54 39-40-54/SWOP 40-54 T.O. 11N-40-54 dated 1 December 1959. This was published under the authority of the Secretaries of the Army Navy Air Forcethe Director Defense Atomic Support Agency and the Atomic Energy Commission. This manual addresses safety precautions when working with volatile materials explosive materials and high voltage. The purpose of this manual was to provide general maintenance information and instructions to be used when authorized by concerned personnel for maintaining "certain assemblies and equipment: at an acceptable quality level. The Scope statement was deleted but it is clear from the involvement of the Defense Atomic Support Agency the Atomic Energy Commission and Sandia Corporation that this manual pertains to aspects of the nuclear weapons activities of the United States. Among the topics addressed are: Rejection Criteria for Electrical Connectors Installation/Removal of Threaded Fasteners. Joining of Parts Cotter Pins Safety Wire Riveting Replacement of Threaded Inserts Bonding Staking Repair of Damaged Materials Maintenance of Electrical and Test Equipment Pressurization Pressure Test and Leak Test. Includes references to special weapons detonator cable ablation shield survaces shock mount and other attributes that by a knowledgeable individual can be associated with the unit or units upon which general maintenance was to be performed.
