Sur le Tableau historique des nations de Jondot : « ouvrage écrit d'un style tantôt boursouflé, tantôt trivial ; sujet très supérieur aux forces de l'auteur ». Sur le dictionnaire des synonymes de Guizot : « recueil bien fait et très utile ». Sur Le Libertinage ou les moeurs telles qu'elles sont de Morel fils : « pièce de poésie très médiocre ». [362]

Il rend compte de cinq ouvrages, de manière positive pour tous : une traduction du Werther de Goethe, un cours d'agriculture, une ode aux espagnols, un livre de Visconti d'une « profonde érudition », etc. [362]

Intéressantes notes sur les ouvrages sortis entre le 23 et le 27 mars 1809 (et non 1808 comme indiqué). On remarquera en particulier le commentaire pour Les Martyrs ou le triomphe de la religion chrétienne de François-René de Chateaubriand : « poème mieux écrit que le génie du christianisme mais où l'on trouve encore trop de pensées inintelligibles ». Il a d'ailleurs mal écrit Chateaubriant. On notera aussi que Gabriel ou le fanatisme (de Léon de Lamothe) est « d'un style assez incorrect » et Le Parc aux cerfs de Faverolle un « roman assez libre et mal écrit ». Beau document. [362]
