1901004252London: Waterlow & Sons 1901. Hardcover. Good. Half calf with gilt crest and titling to upper board. Gilt on red label to spine. Red label has a diagonal scratch and a small tear. There is a white label with the number '16' affixed to the spine. Rubbing to spine has produced a mottled effect possibly consistent with insect damage. Although the gilt titling is still vibrant the leather is very worn and rubbed esp to the extremities. At three of the corners and at the spine base the calf has rubbed away altogether. The top 8cm of the spine edge at front is splitting and there is a crack at the Preface. Plain ochre endpapers. The 910pp contents are unmarked and undiscoloured and the binding is very secure. There are no ownership markings or rubber stamps. Revised translation commissioned by Sir Alfred Milner. Arguably a somewhat presumptuous publication seeing as the Anglo-Boer War was far from over in April 1901. A rare volume. Waterlow & Sons hardcover
