Hardcover, 271 pages ,+ appendix 36 pages in English , 27 x 19.5 x 2.5 cm., meer dan 200 fraaie kleurenfoto's, nieuw. NL/ ENGLISH . ISBN 9789082063004. ---------------- LIEFTE VERWINDT AL DINCK is the border text of a mortar from 1597. This beautiful mortar comes from the mortar collection Salentijn, which is shown in this book on the basis of two hundred color photos: mortars that extensively tell their history: where, when and by whom and who they are made for; and other copies that reveal very little about their origin. Beautiful detail photos give an idea of the craftsmanship and the attention with which the jacks are made. This book is intended for the antique enthusiast in general and the mortar collector in particular. A bold reference book in which each mortar is described with interesting historical details. The mortars are classified by country of origin: not only Dutch and Belgian mortars and those from countries such as Germany, England and France, but also specimens from Southern Europe, the Middle East and a few from Africa. Each country or region is expertly introduced for the enthusiast and the connoisseur. The index and the English translation of the captions make the stylish book accessible to every reader.

Stanfield (1793-1867), member of the Royal Academy, friend of Charles Dickens and Captain Maryatt, illustrated many fine books and plate books of the period. He is regarded as one of England's finest marine painters, and considered as Turner's rival as a delineator of cloud forms. Many of his works are in important galleries and museums.
