PETIT IN 4. REL TOILE EDIT [MOY]. ENV 250 PP. ENV 120 ILL EN NOIR. [BE]
Geillustreerde kartonomslag in kleur, 225 x 275mm., 128pp., zeer uitgebreide kleurillustratie. ISBN 9789040077715. Nieuw boek.

Beautiful engraved Illustrations of coins and medals throughout, many foldout. In French. Title translates as Metalic History of the Republic of Holland. New Edition Augmented by 140 Medals. Graesse I, 433. Lipsius / LS 47. The Bourbon historian and scholar Pierre Bizot (1630-1696) was one of the first authors to take an interest in modern numismatics. The author also proposed to reconstruct the history of the Netherlands based on the production and description of the medals. Metal production in the Netherlands from 1566 to 1680 is described with a great luxury with both numismatic and historical information. The book of Bizot had been printed for the first time in Paris in 1687 in folio format. In this second edition in smaller format, the first two volumes reproduce the text of Bizot. However the editor there has inserted several additions and had many plates engraved again, that were engraved in reverse in the first edition issued a year earlier in 1687. Includes Remarques sur Ledition De Paris De la Republique de Hollande de Mr. Bizot at the end of the 2nd volume. A supplement was published over a decade later. Paper and internal binding excellent with only light toning, no tears, Very Good Condition. (AC-21-18)
