Publisher's olive-green soft cloth boards with black lettering. A couple of former owner's inscriptions to the front paste-down and front free end-paper otherwise a VG copy with slightly soft spine tips. Firm hinges. Cloth in nice condition. No foxing. Firmly bound. Complete with 123 pages including faintly-lined tissue pages between each page of text for taking notes as issued. One of the tissue pages has a penned recipe on it. There is a 56-page catalogue of to the rear of Thacker Spink & Co's Publications. An early Indian cookery book compiled anonymously by a "Thirty-Five Years' Resident" and containing recipes and cooking methods on rice curries soups fish vegetables preserves liqueurs and more along with information on medicines perfumes and cosmetics. Originally published as a first edition in 1880 which is exceedingly uncommon. This - the reprint form 1891 - occasionally appears but this is a much nicer copy than normally encountered. Sehr bemerkenswert ist die Mitteilung ¸ber den Engl‰nder Ellis der bereits 1775 den Brotfruchtbaum f¸r Westindien empfiehlt. "Der Engl‰nder Ellis empfahl in einer besondern Beschreibung London 1775 die auch ins Franzˆsische ¸bersetzt ward Description du Mangostan & de Fruit ‡ pain &c. 8∞ Rouen 1779 den Mangostan und den Brodbaum f¸r die Kolonien von Westindien und die holl‰ndische Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften zu Harlem sezte auf die Einf¸hrung des letzten einen Preis hier Querverweis auf Gartenkalender 1782 S. 248. Ellis zeigte zugleich wie die Fortbringung dieses so sehr n¸tzlichen Baums geschehen kˆnne und zeichnete zu diesem Gebrauch drey Kasten vor. Seine Anweisung ist f¸r Reisende die in die Inseln des Brodbaums kommen ¸beraus wichtig". "Der ber¸hmte Lord Anson fand den Brodfruchtbaum auf der reitzenden Insel Tinian. Die Frucht w‰chst ohne Unterschied auf allen Theilen der Aeste; sie ist der Gestalt nach eher l‰nglich als vollkommen rund und mit einer rauhen Rinde umgeben. "Der Brodfruchtbaum erz‰hlt H. Prof. Forster in seiner Reise um die Welt kommt beynahe ohne alle H¸lfe fort. Zwey oder drey B‰ume die fast so lange tragen als der lebt der sie gepflanzt hat geben ihm drey Viertheile des Jahres seinen Unterhalt.
