In April 1951 Salt was called before the HUAC and then placed on the Black List. After struggling for a decade and a half with often-pseudonymous television writing and commercial work in 1969 he wrote the award-winning screenplay for MIDNIGHT COWBOY. Subsequent credits included SERPICO THE DAY OF THE LOCUST and COMING HOME. In 1987 just prior to his death he received the WGA Laurel Award in recognition of his considerable achievements.
