Bright copy of the first volume of Lee's autobiographical trilogy, set in the village of Slad in Gloucestershire and with striking dustwrapper and illustrations by John Ward. This is the first issue, with the passage on the 'regular' fire at the piano-works (p.272), subsequently suppressed as the result of an action for libel.
