2015386689NY: Feral House 2015. 1st. Softcover. Very Good/None. Softcover. 224 pages. The book Horizontal Collaboration encompasses the Jazz Age Depression World War and Occupation and Liberation. It concludes with the shuttering of the licensed brothels in 1946 which some Parisian intellectuals thought was the final "destruction of French civilization". The term "Horizontal Collaboration" refers to the sexual liaisons between French civilians and German occupiers from 1940 to 1944. These were extremely widespread and included both individual wartime relationships in addition to prostitution. As Allied armies swept across the French countryside thousands of young womenand some menwere savagely punished by the authorities or by vigilante crowds becoming a source of deep national shame. Author Gordon redefines the pejorative term to mean something much broader: French men and women "horizontally collaborated" to overcome all social obstacles divisions and regulations. These obstacles include married and unmarried couples straights and homosexuals foreigners and locals gun-toting soldiers and their vanquished subjects. The natural yearning for sexual pleasure equally corrupted all cohabitating partners. Clean copy in publisher's shrinkwrap. Record # 386689 Feral House paperback

"During 1920 I had recourse to travel over all the European belligerent states and to administer relief in the new Republic of Czecho-Slovakia. I gathered much information political and economic while there and subsequently in the enemy states Austria Germany and Hungary". The reply from James Pond of the Pond Lecture Bureau on behalf of the New York World editor notes that the subject would be of interest to Americans but that setting up any lecture series would have to be preceded by a meeting since interest depends so much on the personality of the lecturer.<p>Doris Mudie was a British author and translator. She translated and edited with Elizabeth Hill "The Letters of Dostoyevsky to His Wife" 1930 and "The Letters of Lenin" 1937. Mel Brooks' screenplay for "The Twelve Chairs" was based on an English translation by Mudie of the novel "Sitting on Diamonds" by Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov. Manchester, U.K.: 26th June, 1921. unknown
