In 8° (21,2x14 cm); (2), 190 pp. (le prime 94 pagine contengono il testo scritto). Legatura coeva in mezza-pelle. Qualche lieve difetto alle cerniere. Piatti foderati con carta foderata color caffè. Manoscritto inedito di Pietro Giacomo Lorena, impiegato nel Genio e addetto alle Scuole Regimentarie del Genio stesso, stabilite in Alessandria. Lorena fu valente matematico ed applicò le sue conoscenze al studio dei “Vasi Vinarij” contenitori atti a contenere il vino durante le diverse fasi della sua lavorazione. Solitamente di forma cilindrica orizzontale venivano anche utilizzati per il trasporto del vino. I “Vasi Vinari” divennero anche un’unità di misura. Nell’ottocento le misure degli stessi cambiava da stato a stato tanto da render complesso il calcolo della reale quantità di vino ceduta durante gli scambi commerciali. Lorena analizza le varie forme e misure dei vasi attraverso tavole dei numeri costanti radicali e dei numeri quadrati. Fra le tavole anche “La tavola mediante la quale si trova per mezzo di una semplice moltiplica la Capacità de’ Vasi Vinarj in hectolitri”. Il volume analizza anche il peso specifico di vari liquidi conservabili nei vasi vinari come birra bianca, birra rossa, sidro, acqua di pioggia alla temperatura del chiario che si squaglia, acqua bollente, acqua di mare, acqua di pozzo, acquavite, acqua mercantile, vino di Bordeaux, vino di Borgogna, vino di Champagne bianco, vino di Coustoce, vino di Malaga, vino Malvasia di Madera, vino di Pacaret, vino Tohai, vino Torrino bianco, vino Torrino rosso, aceto bianco, aceto rosso, aceto distillato, olio. Seguono tavole con le misure di diverse città del Piemonte di altri stati come Alessandria, Biella, Casale, Genova, Novi, Ivrea, Parma, Torino, Tortona, Vercelli, Voghera, Bergamo, Bologna, Brescia, Cesena. Segue anche uno schema che raffronta il nome dato ai vasi vinari con i litri e gli “hectolitri” in essi contenuti nelle città di Faenza, Firenze, Londra, Mantova, Milano, Modena, Novara, Reggio, Pavia, Roma, Venezia, Verona, Vigevano, Valenza, Cento, Cervia, Chiavenna, Como, Crema, Cremona, Faenza, Forlì, Imola, Lodi, Lugo, Ravenna, Rimini, Rovigo, Sondrio, Valcamonica, Valsesia, Napoli, Parigi, Piacenza, Vienna ecc. Altre tavole permettono di calcolare la capacità dei vasi vinari in Brente torinesi, di Alessandria, Pavesi, Barili di Genova. La seconda parte del volume è dedicata alle “Operazioni Geometriche a farsi nello stabilire la capacità di Vasi Vinarij”. L’ultimo capitolo e’ invece dedicato ai “Pesi e Misure d’Alesandria”. Opera in ottime condizioni di conservazione, compilata in bella ed elegante grafia ottocentesca.

Professeur à l'Université de Giessen, Justus Liebig (1803-1873) a perfectionné la technique d’analyse élémentaire des composés organiques développée par Lavoisier. Il est considéré comme le fondateur de l'agriculture industrielle et des produits alimentaires ont été diffusés par la firme qui porte son nom. Le contenu de ces "lettres" dépasse largement le cadre scientifique pour présenter une véritable "philosophie de l'histoire". He requested Prof. Levi to institute a wide and methodical inquiry into the earnings of the working classes throughout the United Kingdom. Levi himself took a lively interest in the working classes and investigated their economic position in several works.****In a calculation made in 1871 it was demonstrated that 'the yearly revenue derived from beer, wines and spirits amounted to about ?28,000,000 being more than a third of the whole revenue. Messrs. Bass contributed upwards of ?780 a day.'
