18933092Chicago IL: McLaughlins XXXX Coffee 1893. Good. Circa 1893 date from verso which reads "Chicago Gets the Fair. You Get XXXX Coffee." most likely in reference to the World's Columbian Exposition a world's fair held in Chicago during 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World. Chromolithographed trade card 6-7/8 x 5-1/5 inches wide with "Decoration Day" now Memorial Day printed in lower left corner and "In Memor. of Our Departed Heros" in a memorial to the right of the baby's blue colored soldiers hat "Shober & Carqueville Lith. Co. Chicago" active 1876-1896 printed at lower right corner. Card with some wear creases and wrinkles a 1/4 inch closed tear to top edge and a 1/2 inch closed tear to right edge ; some toning and scuffs to verso. An uncommon and bright 19th century trade card having obvious symbolism honoring the soldiers who died in the American Civil War. McLaughlins XXXX Coffee unknown
