1975y0073Schenectady: Union College Press 1975. Biography of this "second rank" leader of the American Revolution. Born in Scotland but emigrated to New York at the age of six he became a merchant seaman then involved with the Sons of Liberty as a radical anti-English activist; during the war he was a major general and one of Washington's inner circle of advisors; after the war his efforts on behalf of unhappy officers helped prevent a military coup. With a pleasing chain of scholarly association: INSCRIBED by the author to "friend & colleague" Bill Haddad on the half-title. This Haddad was NOT the journalist associated with the Kennedys but a later chair in the 1980s of the ISU History Department of which Champagne was the first chair when it was founded in 1965. Hardcover in jacket as pictured. Light wear to book minor bumping to corners; jacket shows some rubbing light edgewear including a couple of short tears creases; badly faded spine.
