Book is in excellent condition with a tiny bump to lower front corner, scuffing to back cover as the only flaws. Binding is solid and square, covers otherwise have sharp corners, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Large format: 9.25x11.25 inches with introduction by the author. Profusely illustrated with b&w and color plates: photos and reproductions of Greek vases, sculpture, classic and current painting from many genres, photos of same, most featuring nude men, 162 illustrations, many full page. Contents include: The heroic nude, The child, youth and the feminized male, Naked victims, The noble savage, Naked not nude, The triumph of the female, The male nude and the avant-garde, The mirror of homosexual desire.

This is a very good hardcover copy privately bound in gray cloth covers with a red leather title label on the spine printed in gilt. Very clean inside and out, but light spotting to endpapers and occasionally throughout and a very elaborate hearaldic bookplate to the inside front cover with previous owner's name on the plate. Also some stress marks, probably from the binding but possibly from use to some pages. Text in French. Essay by Schmidt-Degener. Illustrate in black & white with about 40 plates. 10" high X 7" wide, 57 pages + plates. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.

No marks or inscriptions. A very clean very tight copy with unmarked matt black boards and no bumping to corners. Dust jacket price clipped but not marked or torn with traces of storage. 324pp. A lavish volume with reproductions from the top artists' advertising images over the previous century. They show how the images may be different but that the psychology used in selling has little changed over the period. A heavy book.

- S.n., s.l. 17 octobre 1940, 17,5x25,5cm, une feuille. - Lettre autographe signée de Moïse Kisling adressée depuis son exil de Lisbonne à Carlo Rim, 30 lignes à l'encre noire, toute empreinte du souvenir mélancolique de sa Provence qui lui manque cruellement : "Ta lettre du 5... m'a donné envie de la sentir pour découvrir un peu d'ail pour sentir le mistral et toute la couleur du pays. Elle m'a apporté un peu d'arôme du pays..." Moïse Kisling interroge son ami sur la pêche : "... elle ne doit pas être bonne en ce moment - nous allons vers novembre. Mais quelque fois la mer est bonne à cette époque. Parle-moi du poisson - quelle sacrée différence de ceux d'ici ! ah ! merde alors ! " et paraît peu enthousiaste à l'idée de se rendre aux Etats-Unis pour y exposer ses oeuvres, encore plus éloigné qu'il sera de sa Provence : "Quand je serai dans le pays de dollars et j'en gagnerai sûrement je te commanderai des longues chroniques sur beaucoup de pages. Tu seras obligé de me raconter tous les potins du pays et tu prendra comme collaboratrice Alice..." Le peintre avoue un certain spleen lié à sa retraite : "... toi aussi tu me manque vieux - du coup je deviens sentimentale. Tu sais? Ici c'est la solitude complète et il faut se mettre à table pour écrire aux êtres que j'ai la bas pour s'oublier un peu. C'est pourquoi des lettres de gars comme toi quand je les reçois me font oublier pas mal de choses..." Pliures inhérentes à la mise sous pli. Carlo Rim fut un écrivain provençal, auteur notamment de "Ma belle Marseille", un caricaturiste, un cinéaste : "Justin de Marseille", "L'armoire volante", "La maison Bonnadieu", et fut notamment l'ami de Fernandel, de Raimu et Marcel Pagnol mais aussi de Max Jacob et André Salmon qu'il rencontra à Sanary.
