First and only edition presentation copy from the translator of the manuscript inscribed on the title page: "Offert à monsieur le Duc de indecipherable due to loss par l'auteur de la Préface". General Johannes van den Bosch 1780-1844 founded the utopian colony of Frederiksoord in the Dutch province of Drenthe putting into practice the ideology of his Société de Bienfaisance which he had set up in 1818. Around 1400 poor families were granted farming land in Frederiksoord and other colonies in Drenthe. The translator Charles Louis de Keverberg 1768-1841 who wrote extensively on poverty was a Belgian-Dutch politician and a friend of Bosch. Octavo. 2 engraved plates and 2 tables in the text. Uncut in original brown wrappers partially unopened. Worn initial leaves with slight staining at extremities and dog-eared with loss to one word of inscription. A good copy. Zijn leven lang heeft hij gedichten geschreven letterkundigen in zijn huis verzameld en jonge talenten als Bilderdijk. Feith Helmers en Nieuwland geadviseerd. De Bosch heeft meegewerkt aan een tweetal dichtprojecten: de vertaling van de fabels van de Duitse schrijver Gellert en een nieuwe berijming van de psalmen ter vervanging van de verouderde 16e-eeuwse van Datheen. Bijna alle platen en vignetten in de 'Dichtlievende verlustigingen' ook de 14 gravures bij de emblematische 'Tafereelen' zijn ontworpen door zijn broer Joannes. Large engraving on the titlepage with the motto: "De kunst besteed met vrucht den tyd Als zy der Deugd haar speeltuig wyd." I.F.D.B. inv. P. Tanjé sculp. With a dedication to Mr. Pieter Clifford 1712-1788 secretary and mayor of Amsterdam and his wife Constantia Catharina Sautyn 1712-1782 accompanied by another large engraving.
