Besides the three original lithographs front and back cardboard dustjacket frontispiece and title page this book contains all of his lithographic output 146 in total from 1921 to 1962 in chronological order. Famous for his Cubist collaborations with Picasso and unfortunately often eclipsed by him Braque continued in this style with a freer application of fragmentation and an intensification of colour creating some wonderful prints along the way.<br /> <br /> Printed at Mourlot Frères this lovely copy of LITHOGRAPHE is in fine condition with only some very slight wear showing on the slipcase. Cataloged by Ferand Mourlot. After his Cubist engravings he began to work on rich lithographs balancing the paper's density and color. It has been said that Braque wants to describe paper as pure intensity so this edition became his magnus opus. Bound in stiff lithographic paper wraps original glassine wrapper with a few chips and a clear tape mend to upper corner of glassine housed in publishers slipcase with some edge wear. A superb copy. Includes 3 original lithographs: the cover frontispiece and title page. As well as 166 colored illustrations. The cover is illustrated and wrapped in a glassine jacket missing the spine. Georges Braque's lithographs particularly from his later career post-1945 are known for their rich colors painterly textures and exploration of recurring themes like birds still lifes and mythological figures using the medium's ability to layer colors and create visual intensity often departing from strict representation to imbue objects with symbolic universal meaning within abstracted forms. He embraced lithography as a more painterly technique than etching developing a distinct vibrant style in his later years characterized by thick expressive strokes and complex color harmonies. . Braque "</i></p><p>At the writing of this letter Braque had just undergone a surgery for a double ulcer in the stomach Picasso will come to see him every day.First a refugee in the Limousin then in the Pyrenees the Braque couple returned to Paris where they spent the entire time of the war in the workshop built by Auguste Perret rue du Douanier.
