Bernheimer was a Los Angeles businessman and noted Robert Frost collector who for a period of months during the 1940s paid Robert Frost a monthly retainer in exchange for the Poet autographing his books magazines Christmas Cards and other Frost-related materials and sending him original inscribed and signed manuscripts. When Robert Frost needed money to purchase the Homer Nobel Farm in Ripton Vermont after his wife's death in 1938 the Poet sold the only surviving copy of his privately published book of poems "TWILIGHT" that he had given his future wife Elinor White Frost.
