Inscribed in ink by Soyer to we believe Lillian Halegua and also a folded greeting card featuring on the front cover a mounted color plate of a Soyer painting of two women and inside an inked Season's Greetings from Soyer and his wife Rebecca written by Rebecca probably -- the writing is different than the book inscription. 4to. 26 by 18 cm. 127 pp. With 43 b/w plates of Soyer's artwork from the trip. Plates included in the pagination. The sketches are sometimes very sketchy and loose renderings and other times completed or fully realized works of art. Subjects include artwork which made a strong impression on Soyer including some totemic artwork sights and views that captured his fancy and portraits of important artists and authors he met among them Balthus Carlo Levi Henry Moore and Alberto Moravia. The text is more or less a diary written in a breezy style and we think convey a certain appealing modesty by the artist who also could be quite bold in seeking introductions to figures he didn't previously know such as Moravia. The DJ survives with several edge chips and short closed tears especially along the upper edge. The book itself has no significant issues. Crown Publishers, Inc unknown
