The cover letter printed after the title leaf is by Secretar of War John Barbour and cites the plan to build a national road from Washington to New Orleans across the Cumberland Mountains as authorized by Congress according to House of Representatives bill number 44 "to regulate th laying out and making a National Road from the City of Washington in the District of Columbia to New Orleans in the State of Louisiana." The ten folding tables give detailed information on the geographical formations natu of soils distances products bridges gradations counties population and distances along the route. New front free endpaper of the later binding also lacking. Some foxing. Priced accordingly. unknown books
