This issue of Derrière le miroir No. 154 was published to coincide with Kandinsky's exhibition in Maeght Gallery in November 1965. The text is by German art historian Werner Haftmann with typography by the renowned Parisian studio Fequet et Baudier. Folio. With 8 lithographs 7 in colour in 3 sizes: cover 38 x 57 cm full-page 38 x 28.5 cm or double-page 38 x 55.5 cm 8 pages of monochrome photographs. Original lithographed wrappers lettering to front cover in black sheets loosely inserted as issued. All housed in the publisher's grey boards with lettering to spine in black with matching slipcase paper label to front lettered in black. Light toning to edges of a few leaves a fine copy. hardcover

Although it contains no original prints Der Blaue Reiter is a key publication in any collection of twentieth century illustrated books especially in Germany. It features articles on a wide variety of subjects including one on the music of Arnold Schoenberg. Published just before the outbreak of the First World War copies of both the first and second edition have long been hard to obtain. a small advertisement has been excised at the rear otherwise a fine copy of a considerable rarity usually only encountered in the second edition.
