Wieso kam es gerade um 1480/1500 zu Dürers epochalen Neuerungen und worin bestanden dieseAls Resümee eines dreijährigen Forschungsprojekts beleuchten die Ausstellung „Der frühe Dürer“ im Jahre 2012 und begleitende Publikation die Voraussetzungen von Dürers Schaffen und stellen es in den Kontext der künstlerischen intellektuellen und ökonomischen Entwicklungen des späten 15. Jahrhunderts.Warum „Modelle“Der Modellbegriff im Projekttitel macht deutlich dass auch gegensätzliche Forschungspositionen samt ihren konkurrierenden methodischen Prämissen gezielt thematisiert werden sollen. Kein anderer Künstler des deutschen Sprachraums hat vielfältigere Charakterisierungen zwischen Humanist und Medienrevolutionär zwischen früher nationaler Vereinnahmung und dem Ideal befreiter europäischer Künstlerindividualität erfahren. Entsprechend vielfältig sind die bisherigen Erklärungsmodelle für das Zustandekommen von Dürers Kunst in Nürnberg um 1500.
