A VG octavo in its ribbon-tied light-brown wrappers with very light creasing to the front panel and a very light trace of soiling at the foot of several of the pages not at all afffecting the plates which are bright and immaculate. Publisher's binding in full fir green cloth smooth spine red shagreen title label gilt floral motif blind fillets on boards. The cover of the first issue illustrated by Mucha is bound at the head of the volume. Contributions by Théophile Gautier Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly Karl Boès Adolphe Retté Francis Jammes Victor Margueritte Ernest Raynaud Stuart Merrill etc. Numerous illustrations including a watercolored frontispiece by Eugène Grasset and drawings by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Alfons Mucha Alexandre Falguière Vivant-Denon Willette Jossot André des Gachons Ferdinand Cazals Henri Detouche James Ensor. At the time of publication Mucha was teaching his “Cours Mucha†at the New York Women’s School of Applied Design and at the Art Institute in Chicago. Henry Stikeman was one of the premier American fine binders from the 1880s through to World War I and during his heyday produced a stunningly large volume of high quality work.
