(mm. 260 x 194), 2 volumi, elegante legatura in p. pelle coeva, sottile cornice a secco ai piatti, dorso a cordoni con fregi e tit. oro su tassello, pp. (4),VIII,326; (4),333,(3); bella vignetta incisa sui due frontespizi e con due antiporte allegoriche che racchiudono due ritratti in medaglione: uno del Tasso e l’altro di Hubert Gravelot, l’illustratore del poema. Magnifica edizione della "Gerusalemme Liberata" su carta distinta, e con le illustrazioni incise per lo più su carta azzurrina, così composte: 20 tavole all’inizio dei 20 canti con, a fronte, 20 tavole con solo grandi testate che raffigurano le medaglie degli eroi del Poema, oltre a 27 culs-de-lampes (a mezza e talvolta a piena pagina) magistralmente realizzate, ed incise in rame da diversi artisti (tra cui Henriquez, Le Roy, Rousseau, Duclos). Le stesse tavole che ornano la presente edizione furono utilizzate nella famosa edizione del 1771, stampata anch’essa a Parigi ma presso Delalain, Durand e Molini. Gli splendidi disegni si devono a Hubert Gravelot (pseudonimo di Hubert-François Bourguignon d’Anville, 1699-1773), celebre pittore e caricaturista francese; lavorò a lungo in Inghilterra e, una volta rientrato a Parigi, divenne un importante illustratore di libri del tempo; tra le sue opere più famose si annoverano le tavole del “Decamerone”, del “Théatre de Pierre Corneille”, delle “Métamorfose” e della già citata edizione della "Gerusalemme" del 1771. Cfr. Raccolta Tassiana della Biblioteca “Mai” di Bergamo, 307 e 277 - Lewine, p. 525 e Boissais / Deleplanque, p. 167 per l’ediz. del 1771 - Benezit,VI, p. 393. Nei margini del testo si rilevano dottissime ed eleganti glosse in scrittura calligrafica con citazioni in greco e latino, dell’Eneide e delle Georgiche, della Farsalia, delle Argonautiche e dell’Iliade. Solo una carta con lieve macchia marginale, altrimenti bell’esemplare, ben conservato.
