The men looking at the work of art are referred to as ""amateurs"". The facial traits are somehow characterized by strong features as if they were caricatures. The original drawing is by Daumier. He signed the composition on the bottom left and the inscribed title reads: ""Les amateurs. Dessin de M. Daumier"". Signed by the printmaker on the bottom right: ""MAURAND"".
