Undated dated approximately from a copy held by the University of Edinburgh Libraries. An uncommon work in the striking original green cloth richly decorated with intricate gilt detail to the front board and spine. Featuring the mis-represented title text to the front board: 'Or The Tracks of The Israelites' as opposed to 'On'. Additionally decorated with full gilt text block edges. Featuring a monochrome frontispiece an illustrated half title twenty-five further monochrome plates and a monochrome folding map in addition to monochrome vignette illustrations throughout. Collated complete. Penned and illustrated by British artist William Henry Bartlett who travelled extensively and created sepia wash drawings as he did so to be engraved Only 3 records on jisc. Bound in original green pictorial boards. Externally smart. Mild offsetting to boards. Mild rubbing to spine. Mild shelf wear. Moderate damp stains to board fore edges. Moderate strain to font hinge between title page and preface and to rear hinge between pages of index. Internally generally firmly bound with occasional moderate strain throughout. Plate facing p.45 weak. Plates facing p.73 and p.127 loose and slotted inside. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot. Notable age toning to frontispiece tissue guard. Book has been re-backed with new brown cloth spine and new endpapers. Original boards have heavy wear to edges with minor loss to areas of the cloth. Interior is relatively clean with light foxing and toning some edge wear to individual sheets and general soiling to the edges of the book block. Good Condition.<br /> <br /> Wonderful survivor of the Monroe County Michigan Atlas published in 1876 by F.W. Beers. Typical of the period this atlas is filled with hand-colored maps and many illustrations of many important businesses and residences.
