The book explores the daily life of people who lived and traveled with horses in Paris. It covers the nuances of horse-drawn carriages riding and dressage. The book is celebrated just as much for its hundreds of caricatures and sketches as it is for its writing. Larger book that measures 11 1/2" tall x 8 1/2" wide with 404 pages. PROVENANCE: This copy has both an ink and an embossed stamp of the "Metropolitan Club Library" in Washington D.C. The Metropolitan Club is an ultra-exclusive highly prestigious private social club just two blocks from the White House. Founded in 1863 it has historically served as a quiet gathering space for presidents politicians and business titans. Known as D.C.'s oldest and most prestigious club it functions as a sanctuary where power brokers can socialize dine and exercise away from the public eye.<br /><br />Condition:<br />Clean covers and spine. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent mild foxing to the pages though a bit heavier here and there. Page 35 has a 1.5" tear at the outer edge that has been repaired with an old strip of clear tape that has turned brown. Embossed "Metropolitan Club" stamp at the bottom right corner of the front end paper and their ink stamp on the title page. "Section 4 / Shelf 11" stamped at the top-left corner of the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Good condition.</p> Librairie Plon hardcover
