Cham studied painting under Paul Delaroche and the art of lithography in the studio of Nicholas-Toussaint Charlet. His first lithograph was published in 1839 and for the following forty years his art concentrated upon amusing scenes of middle class life ranging from the foibles of fashion to the hazards of horse racing. His many lithographs comprise a wonderful study of French life and culture during the mid nineteenth century. Light folds and text on reverse as issued. unknown
