Includes the original printings of many of Daumier's celebrated lithographs including the Franco-Prussian War Delteil 3757-381139e année du 1er janv. au 24 sept. 1870 soit 261 sur 262 numéros reliés en demi-toile brune à coins dos lisse reliure moderne ensemble lavé un seul numéro pour les 2 et 3 janv. les 2 et 3 mars les 18 et 19 avr. les 6 et 7 juin les 16 et 17 août manque 31 mars ; des numéros de mai sont mal classés. « Fondé le 1er déc. 1832 par Charles Philipon comme un journal d'opposition républicaine à la Monarchie de Juillet le journal satirique à vocation distractive s'affirma au cours de son histoire tantôt radical conservateur républicain ou encore anti-clérical. Ses auteurs les plus notables furent notamment Taxile Delord ou encore Agenor Altaroche et ses caricaturistes les plus marquants furent entre autres Philipon Nadar Gustave Doré Henri Rochefort Cham et Honoré Daumier. After the Seine had run out of fish the Paris Journal offered helpful hints on how to 'fish for sewer rats with a hook and line bated with tallow.’ 39 distinctions in price were made between brewery and sewer rats although the popularity of both breeds was confined to the rich on account of the extravagant sauces required to make them palatable. Both Mr. Lesec and Mr. Legras are getting married and there is much going on in their households. They leave jointly for Algeria and go lion hunting. this adventure unfortunately causes Mr. Legras to gain weight and Mr. Lesec to lose several kilos. The same thing happens during a subsequent adventure with a camel. Unfortunately the two friends leave Algeria for Italy then for Turkey Crimea India where they live multiple adventures that leave them in their respective physical states. They both decide to return to France Mr Legras dies from being severely overweight - and the very depressed Mr Lesec just gets thinner and thinner and eventually also dies.<br /> <br /> Somewhat scarce with OCLC locating just four colored copies in libraries and institutions worldwide: The Morgan Library & Museum NY; University of Chicago IL; Boston Public Library MA; Victoria & Albert Museum London UK.
