Premier tirage des 35 dont page de titre planches lithographiÂŽes signÂŽes de Cham dans la plaque figurant 1 ˆ 2 sujets par page. ''Son gožt naturel pour le dessin lui fait frÂŽquenter les ateliers des peintres Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet et de Paul Delaroche. Sous leur influence Cham se spÂŽcialise dans la caricature. Il publie tout d'abord un album Monsieur Lajaunisse puis collabore au journal Le Charivari lui donnant pendant trente-six ans l'essentiel de sa production. Son gožt de l'absurde fait de lui un des grands humoristes de ce journal. Ses dessins valent non seulement par le tracÂŽ simple et fort inspirÂŽ sans doute par HonorÂŽ Daumier mais aussi par l'esprit et par les lÂŽgendes qui les accompagnent.'' Absent du Fonds franÂais ainsi que de la B.n.F. Quelques rares t‰ches affectant les marges dont une planche est cependant davantage pourvue. Page de titre du second ouvrage ici absente. Pictorial title a little foxed in blank margins otherwise clean. Extremities of spine and corners expertly restored front free endpaper replaced. An excellent example of a rather scarce Cham title.<br /> <br /> Only eight copies in institutional holdings worldwide.
