Sem's unique talent made his work very identifiable particularly because of the essential sobriety of his composition in which his characters usually emerge from a white or plain background rather than being more obvious caricatures. Sem captured the spirit of the subject and in turn produced images that were true to life. 19105486Paris: Devambez Graveur Editeur 1910. First edition. Folder with ties containing preface and 8 unbound sheets of colour illustrations by SEM. There seem to have been two different versions of this publication as all of those available online have either eight or ten illustrated sheets. These celebrities are happy to confirm their love of drinking Bénédictine! Boards are a little darkened with some marking to the bottom edge and a touch of loss to the open edge. The preface two leaves folded is darkened to the first page. The plates are in mostly in good clean condition although some have a touch of edgewear to them. Undated. Circa 1910. 245 x 170 mm 9¾ x 6¾ inches. A very nice copy. SEM - Georges Goursat 1863–1934 was a French caricaturist famous during the Belle Époque. As well as the caricatures which made him famous he created work in a very different style as a correspondent during World War I. His later work was very influenced by the "Jazz Age" and high society in Paris during the 1920's. Première édition. Dossier avec attaches contenant une préface et 8 feuilles non reliées d'illustrations en couleur réalisées par SEM. Il semble y avoir eu deux versions différentes de cette publication car toutes celles disponibles en ligne comportent soit huit soit dix feuilles illustrées. Ces célébrités sont heureuses de confirmer leur amour pour la Bénédictine ! Les couvertures sont légèrement noircies avec quelques marques sur le bord inférieur et une légère perte sur le bord ouvert. La préface deux feuilles pliées est noircie sur la première page. Les planches sont pour la plupart en bon état bien que certaines présentent une légère usure sur les bords. Non daté. Vers 1910. 245 x 170 mm 9¾ x 6¾ pouces. Très bel exemplaire. SEM - Georges Goursat 1863-1934 était un caricaturiste français célèbre pendant la Belle Époque. Outre les caricatures qui l'ont rendu célèbre il a créé des œuvres dans un style très différent en tant que correspondant pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.
