He contributed to French de luxe magazines like "Journal des Dames et des Modes" "Gazette du Bon Ton" and "Les Feuillets d'Art". In the 1920s he made stage and costume designs for the Folies Bergères and other theatres; among his outstanding works are costumes created for Josephine Baker. Simon Kra 1853-1940 was a French bookbinder and publisher. Italian artist Brunelleschi moved to fin-de-siècle Paris where he worked as an artist illustrator and fashion designer. He designed sets and costumes for Folies Bergère in the 1920s including for Josephine Baker and for the Scala in Milan and the Roxy Theater in New York; according to Jane Merrill "his style was opulent yet humorous and light" 152. Among his known specialties was 18th-century Venetian styles and "refined coloring" both on their best display in this work. 2 volumes 10.5'' x 8'' each. Original cream pictorial wrappers with French flaps. In original cream paper slipcase. An extremely good bright and unopened copy the slipcase has a little wear.A tale of two childhood friends set on the Ile de France Mauritius which was published in 1788 and supported the philosophy of Rousseau. Although Paul and Virginie do own slaves the book does argue for the emancipation of slaves. <br>The watercolour is particularly striking being a strong full length portrait of a Mauritian slave. A fine display of pochoir with an original signed watercolour of a Mauritian slave by Brunelleschi F. Guillot unknown
