br. Nell'anno 2020 il mondo ha celebrato il sesto centenario dall'avvio dei lavori alla cupola della cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, l'impresa più eclatante fra quelle di Filippo Brunelleschi. A quell'altezza cronologica della Notizia di Filippo di ser Brunellesco, nota col titolo di "Vita di Filippo Brunelleschi", scritta da Antonio Manetti, ogni edizione in commercio era esaurita. La nuova trascrizione deliberata dall'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore del manoscritto di Manetti conservato nella Biblioteca Nazionale di Firenze favorisce un approccio filologicamente fondato al testo quattrocentesco e ne agevola la lettura grazie a un adeguato corredo di note. Si tratta del testo che più di tutti promuove un'integrale riflessione sulle virtù, sull'Umanesimo e sulla scienza di Filippo, necessaria a comprendere il valore della cupola del Duomo fiorentino e le ragioni culturali che stanno alla sua origine. With an original watercolour signed by Brunelleschi. 12 full page illustrations 3 headpieces and 3 initials by Brunelleschi vibrantly coloured in pochoir by Vairel. 4to. original printed wrappers housed in the original chemise with blue lettering on spine and card slipcase. An extremely good bright and unopened copy the slipcase has a little wear.A tale of two childhood friends set on the Ile de France Mauritius which was published in 1788 and supported the philosophy of Rousseau. Although Paul and Virginie do own slaves the book does argue for the emancipation of slaves. <br>The watercolour is particularly striking being a strong full length portrait of a Mauritian slave. A fine display of pochoir with an original signed watercolour of a Mauritian slave by Brunelleschi F. Guillot unknown

The illustrations glamorize the new silhouette and streamlined fashions and capture the rage for the fox trot and tango and as always. As always Brunelleschi shows an affinity for the exotic and a kind of Orientalism. Original wraps are bound in to lovely half-morocco binding. Minor light foxing on the fore-edge.
