'Printed for Private Circulation' on t.p. f/piece portrait with tissue-guard316 plate with tissue-guardof his memorial in Rectory Place Chapel Woolwich facing p.314; major fault is excision of nearly all front endpaper leaving 2 cm. strip along gutter otherwise clean aside from occ. small faint tanning spots to t.p. and last leaf quite unmarked and tight with good end-gutters top edge has some ingrained dustiness; bevelled edge covers excellent being bright and clean with no significant wear blind-stamped top and bottom edge borders. Islands visited included Raratonga Samoa Eromanga New Hebrides and Maniiki. L'ouvrage du même nom publié ultérieurement par Flammarion a peu de textes en commun avec celui-ci et surtout ne reprend pas l'extraordinaire "Art de se conduire dans la Société des Pauvres Bougres". Couverture illustrée avec manques dans les marges, dos muet fendu avec manques. Orné de culs-de-lampes. Papier fragile, mais propre.

Bien complet du beau frontispice gravé à l'eau-forte par André Gill représentant l'auteur jeté au cachot en Corse. On joint un 2e exemplaire de cette eau-forte, volante. Bel exemplaire en reliure signée un peu postérieure.
