A beautifully produced Folio Society facsimile of the 1929-1931 Golden Cockerel Press edition of 'The Canterbury Tales' with beautiful engravings by Eric Gill one of the most successful Golden Cockerel Press titles. A useful addition to such a sumptuous volume. This is the same size as the 'Canterbury Tales; but very slim. This is Bound with a black cloth spine sage-green paper boards and a Title Label to the front board. "The Canterbury Tales" is bound in Black Nigerian goatskin leather by G. Lachenmaier with Fabriano Tiziano endpapers. Leather is blocked in 24-carat gold with gold titles/decoration to the spine and upper board. All edges gilt. With a black satin ribbon marker. Canterbury Tales = c.768 pages. Peter Holliday Essay = 48pp. Dimensions of the books are 12 ½" x 7 ¾" Outer Clamshell dimensions are Small Folio = 35cm by 23cm 13¾ by 9 inches. Toned parchment substitute wove paper printed damp on a Washington handpress in black and light brown.
