"Bailey graduated from Paulsboro High School and Pierce Business College then went on to Jefferson Medical College from which he received his doctorate in 1891. He interned at Cooper Hospital and remained in Camden practicing general surgery into the 1930s." Bailey's nephew had the same name but was born in 1893. Else fine. <br/><br/>Guided by an entity she named “Myninterest” London housewife and spiritualist Madge Gill 1882– 1961 began making art in 1919 and thereafter created hundreds of automatic Dada-esque drawings predominantly ink from the postcard size here to long rolls of muslin. It has been suggested that Gill used her drawing to communicate with her children two of which died in infancy. She was a favorite of many outsider art proponents including Jean Dubuffet and Gill was a subject in Compagnie de l’Art Brut’s classic monograph series. unknown books

An innovative two-volume publication by The Old Stile Press reprinting the original Golden Cockerel Press edition in one volume and printing for the first time an "alternative version" using Eric Gill's alternate illustrations from his copper engravings. Of the five illustrations in the original Golden Cockerel edition - "God Sending" "Earth Waiting" "Earth Inviting" "Dalliance" and "Earth Receiving" - Gill made alternative plates of four although only three were advertised in the note to subscribers laid in at the rear of that edition. <br/><br/>These alternative illustrations "basically follow the composition of the published versions but the male and female figures already naked in the published versions are presented in a state of realism which would clearly have been unexpected and in many quarters unacceptable at that time" per the Preface. Both volumes follow the pagination of the Golden Cockerel edition but employ a larger page size and Gill's Ariel typeface. <br/><br/>___DESCRIPTION: Patterned paper over boards gilt stamped spine in a matching slipcase.
