He has also been Creative Director at Artek, the Finnish furniture company founded by Alvar and Aino Aalto. Dixon's artistic career began when he discovered the pleasures of welding while repairing damaged motorcycle frames; he went on to specialize in welded salvage furniture and became known as a designer when his S-Chair was manufactured by Guido Cappellini in 1991.
