It is a rare species, but it exists, as '60s art critic Pascal Renous pointed out on the subject of artistic couples. This designer-decorator duo of Janine Abraham and Dirk-Jan Rol met at Jacques Dumond's studio in 1955. The couple shares the same love of precision, line and plain colours. Their earliest joint creations were first exhibited at the Salon des artistes decorateurs, in Paris. Their furniture, made of wicker, wood and aluminium, twice won prizes at the Salon des artistes decorateurs (a sideboard in 1956 and an armchair in 1958), garnering notice from the public and professionals alike. Jean Royere did not hesitate to use their emblematic Soleil armchair (gold medal at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair) in the decoration of the palace of the Shah of Iran, in Teheran. Their light and functional designs are available today, re-edited by Yota Design. Abraham & Rol were also interior designers and intervened in this capacity for both individual clients and large corporate clients, such as Yves Rocher and Saint-Gobain, with the same precision and sense of composition that define their furniture pieces. Finally, the couple also expressed their creativity through architecture, their mastery of this discipline enabling them to design some twenty houses from the 1960s through the 2000s in the Ile-de-France region. Their homes are genuine inhabited sculptures, of which certain have become truly emblematic.

////// Gert Voorjans' universe dissected into objects This is not an auction catalog. This book is a carnet de voyage. A travelogue about objects that once washed ashore in Antwerp, but are now ready to leave again. In search of new layers of meaning, longing for a new context. Madeleine Castaing, Jacques Grange, Alberto Pinto, Carlos de Beistegui: many great decorators have already preceded Voorjans in an auction of objects that passed through their hands. These collection items still bear their pedigree, but now tell different stories in new contexts. Voorjans is also releasing his collectibles, which were his partners' route for years. In Collectibles Voorjans gives us a unique glimpse into his rich universe. He also wants to pass on his passion for collecting to a new generation of 'tastemakers', for whom he has paved the way. His private collection of art, antiques and curios can each embark on a new journey in their own right. Collectibles collects the best of Gert Voorjans' collection of objects and artifacts, which he has collected over a span of 25 years.

Bound, illustrated cardboard cover, oblong : 280 x 230mm., profoundly illustrated in colour and b/w. ISBN 9788874394418. The modern and contemporary furnishing industry of Italy represents a unique paradigm, on account of its industrial design production created by the most important international architects and designers of the 20th and 21st centuries. While reams have been written about Italian architects and designers, until now no volume has ever been dedicated to those who contributed to the success of these designers. "Backstage" takes a behind-the-scenes look at the entrepreneurs who deftly invented the most important phenomenon of modern and contemporary furnishing: those who risked and invested in innovative products that have became icons of design, and those who believed in a new form of elegance. In a detailed historical analysis from the fifties to today, Stefano Casciani follows the career paths of the movers and shakers of the design world. The protagonists are also depicted in striking black-and-white portraits by the Norwegian photographer Tom Sandberg. These portraits of entrepreneurs such as Bruno Danese, Giulio Cappellini and Patrizia Moroso, tell of the individual and collective experience of constructing the image of Italian design worldwide. From the Luisa chair by Poggi to the Thinking Man's chair by Cappellini, from the Tizio lamp by Artemide to the Glo-ball by Flos, the text discusses the past and present of the various entrepreneurial histories and the development of the culture of Italian design. Finally, bio-bibliographical apparatuses complete the volume and enhance its usefulness as a reference book on design. New book.
