19664878N.p.: Vandal Publications for Gear 1966. Poster poem offset lithograph 58x45cm. Very good with pinholes and wear at corners some toning to edges and a few light scuffs and smudges. Psychedelic poster-poem from one of the pioneers of the genre English poet Christopher Logue 1926-2011. Logue produced the first of these poems with designer Germano Facetti in 1958 which was titled "To My Fellow Artists" and would go on to produce several more in collaboration with other artists the posters mainly reflecting his pacifist beliefs. The image on this poster is of infamous outlaw Rube Burrow who was shot dead while attempting an escape from jail in Marengo County Alabama in 1890. The poem was later set to music as "Be Not Too Hard" by Joan Baez and appeared on her album "Joan" in 1967. Vandal Publications for Gear unknown
198819896Brooklyn: Society for the Preservation of Weeksville & Bedford-Stuyvesant History 1988. Third Printing. Wraps. Stapled. Fine. With a substantial inscription by co-author Joan Maynard to Janice Quinter dated May 18 2005 which reads in part: "As I told you -- so much good information is available since this was done in 1983. The work of Dr. Judith Wellman about Weeksville is substantial and there will be a wonderful new publication A-Borning! Joan." Weeksville was a black settlement in Brooklyn and its restoration and preservation was a corrective to show an entirely neglected part of New York history and beyond that we would note a break from the past of historic preservation inasmuch as it wasn't focused on a mansion or estate ot some other place associated with the upper crust. 23 by 17.5 cm. 49 pp. Many b/w or really brown and white photos documenting both the historic Weeksville and the restoration efforts with photos of many of the people involved. Note photos were taken with both a flash and without and the latter look somewhat yellowed. In actuality the flash photos capture the paper color better -- all the leaves are quite white and fresh in appearance. Society for the Preservation of Weeksville & Bedford-Stuyvesant History unknown

19891003894The Children's Book Council 1989. Color poster depicting a grandmother sharing a book with her grandson created by John Steptoe. In 1989 the Children's Book Council commissioned four posters on the theme of "Families Reading Together" from children's illustrators Steptoe Donald Carrick Peter Sis and David Wiesner. Proceeds from their sale supported literacy and reading programs around the world. Raised in Brooklyn Steptoe was a pioneering illustrator of sixteen children's books twelve of which he wrote. He centered African-American children in his work beginning with Stevie 1969 which was published in Life magazine and then by Harper & Row when he was still a teenager; Stevie would be memorably read aloud by Gordon on Sesame Street. Steptoe received Caldecott Honors twice for The Story of Jumping Mouse 1985 and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters 1988. This poster was among the last of his works to be published before his untimely death from AIDS at the age of thirty-eight. After his death the American Library Association established the John Steptoe New Talent Award in his honor. A fine example of a scarce poster. Color poster measuring 19 x 13 inches.
