180429157London: William Miller 1804. A single plate drawn and engraved by Mr. Kirk. The black and white horizontal engraving shows two male figures in a boat in water approaching the shore where a female figure is sitting. There is also a bird flying overhead. The image is bordered in a decorated rectangular frame and is labeled P1.18 Image roughly 5.75 x 3.5 inches printed on a single sheet measuring 11.5 by 9 now presented in a black mounting board behind clear mylar. A very fine plate in an excellent state of preservation. A BEAUTIFUL AND IMPRESSIVE PLATE FROM A MASTERPIECE OF CLASSIC ART RENDERINGS AND PUBLICATION. Hamilton served as British envoy to the court of Naples where he began collecting Greek vases and other antiquities immediately upon arriving at his post. In 1766–67 he published a volume of engravings of his collection entitled A Collection of Etruscan Greek and Roman antiquities from the cabinet of the Honble. Wm. Hamilton. A further three volumes were produced in 1769–76. Josiah Wedgwood the potter and porcelain maker drew great inspiration from the reproductions presented in Hamilton's volumes.<br> William Miller unknown

Limited edition number 71 of 500 copies signed by Neal and Eichenberg at the colophon. As issued sewn into printed wrappers with full page wood engraving by Eichenberg serving as a frontispiece. Another similarly printed and sewn booklet with title page and colophon serves as a folder for a loose wood engraving of the frontispiece—this signed and numbered by Eichenberg on the bottom margin; all houses in publisher's slipcase with printed paper labels. Only light rubbing to the slipcase but the contents are nearly fine. A striking engraving portions of which have been employed to decorate the covers of each booklet as well as each colophon. Issued unbound in 10 gigantic folded leaves with horrifying engravings of cannibalism. The pages are all housed inside a paper stiff white illustrated paper folder which is housed inside of a large stiff paper slipcase with olive green spine panel titled in white and black and white illustrated side panels. The pages are clean and bright. Minor browning to spine panel and edges of folder along with a few scuff marks to front panel. Wear rubbing chipping and short tears to edges of slipcase. Browning to edges of panels of slipcase. A fascinating piece that can be appreciated for the images alone even if one is unable to read the text. 40 pages. Size: about 23 x 15 inches. 27048401Japan n.d. ca 1830-40's. Three prints two from an erotic book each in 2 parts: 20.5 x 14; 3rd is 19 x 14 cm. and is probably a later work from about the Meiji period or 1880's. The first two are slightly discoloredthe last one is clean. . . . THREE ORIGINAL COLOR WOODBLOCK EROTIC PRINTS . . . The first two prints are from what is probably the same erotic book Shunpon both show a couple engaged in love-making. Each has text and comments of the lovers while engaged in love-making. . One pair of pages are re-backed the other not they are from about the 1830-40's. . The third item is newer and quite clean. It shows a couple under a Kimono while the man caresses her vagina. This is probably a Meiji work from about 1870-80's. Its quite clean and bright with good image. . All are tipped on to a hand-made Washi paper backing sheet which is 17 x 20 cm. . Good examples from the "Shunga" erotic woodblock prints genre. . . unknown
