Gestochene Kupferplatte (120:169 mm). Schön gestochene Darstellung Mariens als Mater Dolorosa mit dem Leichnam des vom Kreuze abgenommenen Christus. Der Reproduktionsstecher Petrini (geb. um 1750) war bis 1810 in Rom tätig (vgl. Thieme/B. 26, 500 u. Nagler 11, 188). Als Schöpfer der Vorzeichnung wird "L. Agricola" genannt (d. i. Luigi Agricola, Vater des Historienmalers Filippo Agricola?). Mit Druckervermerk: "In Roma presso Agapito Franzetti al Corso".

First published in 1745 and Dedicated to the Duchess of Portland, from whose most extensive collection it was compiled. Vertue derived much of the information for the life of Hollar from the younger Faithorne and Mr. F. Place, both of them engravers, who were very conversant with Hollar during his residence in London.
