RARE unique collection of 71 copper engravings by renowned Scottish artist William Home Lizars (W.H.Lizars), who was made famous through the painting-like quality of his engravings. His works are well known to book collectors, as he provided a great deal of Sir Walter Scott's books with illustrations and vignettes. Most of the engravings in this volume depict Scottish landscape and landmarks. Additionally, the volume contains views of London, Dublin and Edinburgh, several portraits, genre paintings and illustrations to Tobias Smollett's "The Adventures of Roderick Random". Each page contains a single engraving, and is followed by a sheet of protective wax-paper. There is no title page, meaning this volume was not mass-printed, and is very likely a unique creation. 210x140mm. Unpaginated. Marbled board Hardcover. Gilt page edges. Cover and spine slightly worn. Cover edges and corners bumped and worn. Pen inscription on second white page. Some of the protective sheets damaged (either creased or have minor tears). The pages containing the engravings are undamaged save for natural aging (yellowing pages and a few faint age-stains).
