Among the 29 credits she amassed she is best known for "The Great Gatsby" 1926 "Laugh Clown Laugh" 1928 and "Oliver Twist" 1933. <br/><br/>A romantic melodrama about women on the home front during World War II told through the lives of a group of female cab drivers and their correspondence with one particularly lonely soldier using numerous aliases to write them. With only one significant male role the soldier who only appears at the beginning and end of the story the main action of the film features women exclusively making it something of an unusual story for it's time. <br/><br/>Tan titled wrappers. Layout annotations in ink and pencil on the versos and one with a Télérama stamp. <br /> <br /> Godard used a cameraman seated in a wheelchair instead of a camera dolly in several films including "Breathless" 1959.<br /> <br /> During a period of romantic tumult a woman discovers she is pregnant with two possible fathers. After premiering at the Venice Film Festival the film was briefly banned in France for its scandalous depiction of infidelity and was only passed by the censors after forcing Godard to make several small changes including changing the film's title from "The Married Woman" to the slightly less inflammatory "A Married Woman." <br /> <br /> Four photographs 7.25 x 9.5 inches one photograph 5 x 7 inches. SIGNED by director Michael Powell on page 12 just above the photo next to his biographical sketch. <br/><br/>While it is certainly arguable that the greatest Powell-Pressburger film is a 10-way tie for first place "A Matter of Life and Death" is probably the most philosophically ambitious of their masterpieces. David Niven is a British wartime aviator who unwittingly cheats death and must ultimately argue for his continued existence before a celestial court. In between these two events is a wildly imaginative and surreal tale told first in Technicolor on earth then in Dye-Monochrome black-and-white in heaven. <br/><br/>This oversize program book evokes the spirit of the film beautifully with clever use of two-color processes mostly pink and blue throughout. Includes biographies and large photos of the principal actors reviews an essay about the techniques used to shoot the film and credits for the cast and crew. The credits and promotion are specific to the UK rather than international or US distribution of the film through Eagle-Lion and General Distributors. <br/><br/>Self-wrappers 14.5 x 11.5 inches saddle-stapled. Two late production states of the script for the 1945 film based on a story idea by Jack Wagner cowritten with John Steinbeck and adapted as a screenplay by Frank Butler. The release dialogue script records a print totaling 51 more feet than the censorship script. Irving Pichel directed and Dorothy Lamour J. Carrol Naish and Arturo de Cordova led the cast. Obviously little apart from Steinbeck's treatment for the film the Valentine collection included a carbon typescript may be easily identified as purely Steinbeck's work; however nothing relating to the script saw lifetime publication so even continuity scripts such as these take on some significance for Steinbeck scholars. From the collection of still photographer Bob Willoughby. <br/><br/>Bob Willoughby 1927-2009 studied with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles worked as a photographer for magazines such as "Life" "Look" and "Harper's Bazaar" and as a set photographer for every major studio documenting some of most important films of the era and creating intimate portraits of some of Hollywood's greatest celebrities. <br/><br/>Willoughby moved his family to County Cork Ireland in 1972 working on only a handful of films through the late 1970s and early 1980s this was one of his final films though he would continue to photograph exhibit and publish books for the remainder of his life. <br/><br/>Based on Anne Piper's 1959 novel "Marry at Leisure" about Candida Ferris who goes to live with her relatives after the death of her father.
